Hi, I’m Tamoa Calzadilla, an award-winning investigative journalist, mentor, and media leader with over 20 years of experience leading high-impact teams in Latin America and the U.S. in investigative journalism, fact-checking, and media literacy.

Drawing on my experience as a Venezuelan-American immigrant, my work focuses on informing, connecting, protecting, and empowering marginalized communities through journalism, education, and the creation of innovative, audience-centered news products that respond to real needs—particularly those of Latino and Spanish-speaking communities in the U.S.

I am a 2025 Stanford University John S. Knight (JSK) Journalism Fellow and co-founder of Acento Story Tank, a bilingual collective of creators and a consulting group with deep experience in strengthening media ecosystems and addressing misinformation through media literacy, verification tools, and smart information consumption.

To recognize her fearless investigative reporting in her native Venezuela and her leadership in fact-checking for Spanish speakers in the U.S., the News Literacy Project named Calzadilla its 2024 John S. Carroll Journalist of the Year.
